Animal rubber bands are still all the rage with teens across America. Scratch that. Animal rubber bands are becoming all the rage ALL over the world! Recent reports show that there is a growing movement across the pond in the UK. In fact, animal bracelets are already a pretty big deal there.
In case you’ve been under a rock for the last six months and haven’t noticed, even animal rubber band “haters” have broken down and grabbed a pack. Thanks to the efforts of PETAB (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animal Rubber Bands). This totally pretend group of animal bracelet lovers that I just made up off the top of my head will bring down the law on anyone who mistreats these cute little glow in the dark animal rubber bands.
I mean, what have they done to you, besides make you look totally cool to anyone who passes you on the street or in a hallway. Animal rubber bands give you power! Power to trade with the best of ‘em. Whaddaya got? Ahhh. I see. How about I trade you ONE semi-rare, glowing yellow hummingbird for two of your, not rare at all, but I still don’t have any Jack Russel terriers. …Deal!
That’s just the way we roll in Animal rubber band land. If you ever want to become a citizen, don’t worry. All you have to do is grab a pack of glow in the dark animal rubber bands and start trading. Don’t forget to save some for your own collection. Who knows when the one you really want might become as hard to find as a four leafed clover in December. I’ll keep an eye out for you though.

Animal rubber bands are everywhere. Depending on where you live, it may seem like you cannot go anywhere without seeing these colorful, animal bracelets on the arms of everyone from little kids to adults.
Animal bracelets have been around since 2002 but did not really take off as a hot accessory until late 2009. That is when kids in Birmingham, AL began snatching them off store shelves like they were the only thing needed to survive in the world. They had to have them.
The animal rubber band craze has not slowed down by any means. In fact it is spreading across the United States like a wild fire. Why?
• They are fun, colorful silicone wristbands that snap back into animal shapes when you take them off
• They are cheap. You can get a pack of 24 of them for fewer than five bucks.
• Kids can wear them, share them, trade or collect them all day long.
• Manufacturers are coming out with new shapes every month making it all most impossible to collect them all.
It is hard to believe that something as simple as a colorful animal shaped rubber band could make such a huge impact on kids but with the state of the economy today, where money is getting harder to come by, parents have found a winner with animal rubber bands. If it makes your kids happy and popular at school and costs less than a new CD or iPod why would you not grab a few packs?
Adults are getting in on the fun as well. Animal rubber bands are beginning to show up in offices around the country and rightfully so. Who could not use a little amusement at work? Life gets more than a little boring when you are living it from a grey, carpeted cubicle all day every day. At least now you can have a purple horse or pink pig to hold your papers for you and keep you company.
